LG Shine Review by phoneArena

Files under LG, review | Leave a Comment

LG had a smash hit when they came out with the Chocolate. To continue upon that success, another stylish line was released, the LG Shine.

After using the handset, the most shining thing, no pun intended, is the design itself. It’s finished off in brushed metal, feels solid, and isn’t overly heavy. It is somewhat thick when compared to most handsets from other companies but it feels very comfortable when held. The display only adds to the great look. Glare was never an issue for us and we were able to make out everything even in bright environments. Colors are very realistic without being over saturated or too dark.

Sliding it open or closed is easy thanks to a spring mechanism that takes over once the slider is half-way opened or closed. Once open, the keypad is revealed which has a strong resemblance to the RAZR minus the reflection. All the buttons are crammed together in this tight space and are a bit small. The design separating each key is slightly raised and easily felt even when not looking at the handset.

The biggest annoyance is that the call, hang-up, and back keys are all the way at the top of the keypad. With small fingers, it isn’t a problem to press them but for those who have bigger ones, the top of the finger has to be used. Despite their crammed design and small size, the keypad isn’t as uncomfortable to use as one might think. Each button is easy to press and gives back strong feedback in both feel and sound. LG Venus and LG Voyager, Available for Pre-Order

LG Venus and LG Voyager

Two of the most awaited mobile phones at this time are now available for pre-order at Verizon Wireless. LG Venus and LG Voyager will start shipping in the near future, but customers can make sure that they will be among the first ones to own one through an order placed right now.

There are low chances that LG Venus and LG Voyager will sell so great in the first days of their release that the only solution to getting one should be a pre-order. Still, for those who are sure that they want to make the purchase, an order could make sure that they embark on the race of being among the first ones to own one.

LG Voyager brings the great advantage of a full QWERTY keypad that the iPhone and many other touchscreen enabled handsets gave up. There are many people out there missing the feeling of real buttons and this smartphone manages to relate to that. The phone brings an LG Prada interface and two screens, an internal and external one, both highly evolved.

LG Venus, on the other hand, is one sexy handset that looks to replace the Chocolate device. The special thing about it is that the phone uses a touchscreen below the display for navigation instead of relying on traditional buttons. The practical purpose of this feature is rather questionable, but the handset looks pretty high-end anyway and that counts more than the practical side for some people.

LG Venus is set for release on November 19th and will come at the price of USD 200 on a 2-year contract. LG Verizon’s release is also just around the corner, set for November 21st. The handset will be available in stores for the price of USD 300. That’s pretty much, especially when considering that for an extra USD 100, the customer can get an iPhone.

elegant.

The two companies have worked closely together on every aspect of the product - from handset development, attention to detail, to design and technological innovation.

President and CEO of LG Electronics, Dr. Scott Ahn said, “We at LG are exceptionally proud of the Prada Phone by LG. The two companies have worked together seamlessly towards a truly shared vision, to develop one of the most beautifully stylish handsets the market has ever seen.”

President and CEO of Prada, Mr. Patrizio Bertelli said, “As we do with ready-to-wear and accessories, we were looking at a break-through. Consistent with our approach, we are not branding an existing product; rather, Miuccia and I have been working with LG to give this new phone a very strong character and unique style, both in its contents and in its design. We, just like our partners at LG, are known for the attention to detail and uncompromising quality of our products. And we find these characteristics in the new mobile phone.”

The company claims that its PRADA Phone introduces the world’s first advanced touch interface which eliminates the conventional keypad making the overall usage experience a highly tactile one. The phone is ultra thin (just 12 mm), and hosts an array of additional multimedia functions, including an MP3 player and a music multitasking function for messaging. LG Unveils iPhone-Like 3G Handset

Files under LG | Leave a Comment

LG Electronics Inc.’s battle to beat the iPhone is far from over. The South Korean electronics company has unveiled its second iPhone-like handset and this one packs several important features the iPhone doesn’t: 3G and high-speed cellular data networking.

The LG-KS20 bears a strong resemblance to the iPhone thanks to a shiny front-face that is devoid of almost all buttons.

The phone is compatible with 3G WCDMA (wideband code division multiple access) networks, the 3G standard being deployed by most operators around the world. That means it will work in countries like Japan and South Korea, where the iPhone won’t at present.

It also means faster data networking. WCDMA supports speeds of around 384k bps (bits per second) in its basic version and the LG phone will also work on networks that have been upgraded with HSDPA (high-speed downlink packet access) data networking at speeds up to 3.6M bps. That’s significantly faster than the EDGE (enhanced data rates for GSM evolution) data network on which the iPhone operates.

Like the iPhone the LG handset also packs Wi-Fi.

Other features include a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0 and an MP3 music player. It’s 12.6 millimeters thick, which makes it about a millimeter thicker than the iPhone.

However the LG handset is missing one feature that some customers will consider of utmost importance: Apple’s OS X operating system. The LG handset runs on Windows Mobile 6.0 and despite advances from previous editions the software is still often criticized for being harder to use and clunkier than the Apple operating system.

The LG-KS20 is getting its unveiling at the IFA electronics show in Germany this week.

Earlier this year LG unveiled its first iPhone-like cell phone. The handset was developed with fashion house Prada and went on sale in Europe and Asia earlier this year at a premium price. The company hasn’t revealed the price of the LG-KS20 but it should hit Europe in the fourth quarter of this year.
